Frigiliana
This is a real gem of a Spanish ‘white village’ with sugar cube houses piled up on the steep slopes of the Sierra de Tejeda, four kilometres above Nerja. Explore the narrow, winding streets and steps of the old Moorish and Medieval quarter. It was here that the last battle took place between Cristians and Moors which forced the latter out of Spain. The village history is depicted on ceramic tiled pictures on the houses. A guided tour of these makes a good way to explore the village, stopping off at an old world wine cellar where you can sample the famous local vintage straight from the barrel.
